When Dr. Terry Wahl was diagnosed with MS, she did what any good doctor would do. She started the standard course of treatments recommended for MS by her peers. After 7 years of the best medicine had to offer for MS, she was for all intents and purposes a cripple. She couldn’t sit in a normal chair, but rather had to recline in a zero gravity chair at home and at work. She could walk only very short distances — and that using two canes! Then one day she decided to put her research acumen to the test.
CDC Advises Delayed Breastfeeding To Boost Vaccine Efficacy
Ten researchers from the CDC’s National Centers for Immunization and Respiratory Disease (NCIRD) released a paper arguing that because the immune-boosting effects of breastmilk inhibit the effects of the live oral rotavirus vaccine, nursing mothers should delay breastfeeding their infants.

Should You Feed Your Baby Iron Fortified Food? (Part 2)
Most pediatricians advise breastfeeding moms to supplement their baby’s iron intake with drops. And when its time for baby to start on solids, the current recommendation is to chose iron-fortified cereals after 6 months of age and to continue that supplementation until around age 2.
Should You Feed Your Baby Iron Fortified Foods?
To avoid low iron levels, the American Academy of Pediatricians advises doctors to make a blanket recommendation that between ages 6 and 24 months, when iron stores run out and children aren’t getting that much iron in their foods, parents buy iron-fortified formula and cereal. A friend of mine recently prompted me to question that assumption.
Should GMOs Be Labeled?
Nothing spells D-R-A-M-A like a mother going up against academics and former scientists in a public blogging forum. That’s just what happened this month to Michelle Maisto, a food-blogging mother writing at Forbes.com after she wrote a post calling for the labeling of GMO foods. Granted, Michelle is not a biochemical engineer, nor is she a trained physician. However, she wasn’t writing about the health or safety of GMO foods. She was just asking a logical question.
Cider Braised Brats, Onions, & Peppers
Does a gluten-free lifestyle mean you have to miss out on beer braised bratwurst from now until eternity? Of course not. There’s always the gluten-free hard stuff. But either way, gluten-free or not, I’ve never really thought beer braised brats tasted like much more than just…brats. So we’ve decided to amp up the flavor by using hard apple cider in place of the beer. Hard apple cider is naturally gluten-free and full of delicious caramel, fruity flavor, a near perfect compliment to sausage, onions and peppers.
