Are you a chocolate lover? I am. While I adore eating locally and in season, I’ve always known that one non-local food I would never give up (barring a zombie apocalypse) is chocolate.
Yet being a chocolate lover is hard for Real Foodies like us. That’s because too many yummy chocolate desserts are full of nasties we strive to avoid.
That sugar? Likely from genetically-modified sugar beets! That soy-lecithin? From genetically-modified soybeans. That flour used in the crust or batter? Full of the allergenic gluten (which so many of us are trying to avoid).
That’s why when I received a review copy of the Amazon best-seller, The Paleo Chocolate Lovers’ Cookbook, I actually did a happy dance of delight.
Be prepared to drool.
That’s the warning I’d give anyone who opens up this book.
It’s just … beautiful.
The author & photographer, Kelly Brozyna of The Spunky Coconut, completely outdid herself with this one.
Not only are the photographs stunning, but the recipes are to die for.
They’re all grain-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free. Yet you wouldn’t know it by looking.
Some of my personal favorites?
- Chocolate Stuffed French Toast
- Mint Chocolate Brownies
- German Chocolate Whoopie Pies
- Chocolate Swirl Cheesecake
- Chicken in Mole Sauce
- Molten Chocolate (the best chocolate “milk” ever!)
Think that sounds intimidating? It isn’t!
These recipes are all quite accessible and uncomplicated. And, they’re not just desserts!
There are breakfast options (like Banana Chocolate Pancakes), main dish options (like Ancho Chile Beef Stew), drink options (like Almond, Banana, Cacao Smoothies), as well as candies, pastries, cakes, cookies, and more.
Also, unlike many coconut & almond flour recipes you’ll find online, these recipes really work! Your family & friends will never know you used an alternative flour.
In short, I highly, highly, highly recommend this book.
I honestly have never seen another cookbook for chocolate lovers’ like it.
Where else are you going to be educated about the importance of fair-trade Rain Forest Alliance Certified chocolate? Where else are you going to find a cookbook featuring ALL chocolate recipes, but using natural sweeteners? Where else are you going to find grain-free, gluten-free, dairy-free chocolate recipes?
Seriously.
There is no other book (that I’m aware of!) that has done this.

This is the fifth in a weekly Weekend Book Love Series (see them all here).
Next week, I’ll be reviewing Well Fed 2: More Paleo Recipes for People Who Love to Eat (currently a #1 Amazon best-seller!).
(Seriously, I get about a dozen books each month from authors and publishers asking me to review them! It’s time I did something with my never-ending supply of interesting books and select the most awesome, most useful, most well-written of the lot to review.)

I am interested in the fall collection but your email says $29 and when I click on it to purchase it says $39. Which one is accurate? Thank you!
Janet Purdy says
I see…that is the membership price.

Right! Sorry for the confusion. I’ve been saying $39 for the past few days, but in this post I said “as little as $29” to highlight the membership price. Do you think that’s too confusing? Should I change it back?

This book sounds amazing! I’m definitely going to check this out. Thanks for sharing 🙂

While it’s probably a pretty neat cookbook, I find it laughable that it’s claiming to be Paleolithic. There’s nothing stone age about the book or its ingredients!
