Real Food Link Love

It’s time for another round-up of some of my favorite recipes, articles, and other goodies from around the web!

First up, Ann Marie at Cheeseslave gets personal about insomnia, obstinate abdominal fat, and constipation. What do these all have in common? They’re all symptoms of magnesium deficiency. Check out the progress she made switching to a magnesium-rich diet.

Next, Cara at Health, Home, & Happiness shared a recipe for a Homemade Chipotle Burrito Bowl. It’s grain-free, GAPS-friendly, and is something my own family enjoys once every few weeks on our dinner rotation. YUM.

Kefir is a great, probiotic drink my kiddos enjoy. Unfortunately, the kind sold at supermarkets is full of artificial colors and sugar. Elizabeth at The Nourished Life shares a tutorial on Homemade Raw Milk Kefir. It’s easy!

Jill at Real Food Forager shares a recipe for Grain-Free Fried Chicken. I haven’t had fried chicken in ages. It’s not just about the grains. It’s the unhealthy vegetable oils that fried-chicken joints fry up their chicken in. In this homemade version, you can eat grain-free AND use healthy oil. It’s a win!

Halloween makes everyone think of candy. Kimi at The Nourishing Gourmet posted 12 Healthy Homemade Candy Recipes today which look delightfully decadent.

I am a passionate advocate for REAL FOOD -- food that's sustainable, organic, local, and traditionally-prepared according to the wisdom of our ancestors. I'm also an author and a nutrition educator. I enjoy playing in the rain, a good bottle of Caol Ila scotch, curling up with a page-turning book, sunbathing on my hammock, and watching my three children explore their world.

Who Am I?

My name is Kristen Michaelis. I'm a nutrition educator, author, and mother of three. I adore hats, happy skirts, horizons full of storm clouds, the full-bodied feel of wind as I ride motorcylces, reading in my hammock, and a hearty shot of Caol Ila scotch. I'm also a rebel with a cause.
