I don’t know about you, but I always look forward to those moments after my children have gone to bed. The house gets quiet. My habit of turning off all but the most necessary lights means that my home is still and dark — somehow inviting. I get to work on things that require my complete attention.

First up, Slate’s Catherine Price wonders what to do with the kale, turnips, and parsely that overrun her CSA bin. If you’ve ever been a member of a CSA or farm share subscription, you know that this is one of its blessings and curses. Sometimes, you get vegetables you wouldn’t naturally be inclined to use. And you get a lot of them. You can either get creative (hence, the blessing), or you can let the food rot (the guilty curse). Here’s Catherine Price’s attempt to solve that little problem.
Michele at Frugal Granola shares about the uses and benefits of Coconut Water. She shares a lot of fantastic information, but one bit in particular piqued my interest. You can use coconut water instead of synthetic pedialyte to rehydrate sick children (or parents)! Go check it out.
Lee at Simple, Good, and Tasty shares a novel approach for how local small businesses can and should compete against Wal-Mart. His idea? Sell better food.
Chelsea Green’s shared about urban gardener R. J. Ruppenthal and his quest to make the most of his small space. Call it “Square Inch Gardening.”
And last but not least, Ann Marie over at Cheeseslave wrote several provocative articles this week. (Go Anne Marie!) The one that pumped me up most, though, was her sensible piece on how exercise is overrated. Her advice? If you want to lose weight, eat more butter and less sugar. I couldn’t have said it any better.
