Did you enter this week’s giveaway for an all grass-fed beef sausage sampler from U.S. Wellness Meats? And also, have you heard about the new Surf & Turf cooking class being offered online by Ann Marie at Cheeseslave? Go check it out! Welcome back yet again to another Fight Back Friday! Today we are bringing…
GIVEAWAY: Grass-fed Sausage Sampler
Sausage is popular with my kids. To be honest, it’s one of my favorites as well. When I first made the switch to eating grass-fed beef and pastured pork, I was saddened to have so few sources of quality sausage. I could buy nitrate-free smoked pork sausage from the same local meat processor that butchered my cow every year, but that was about it.
Where was the Italian sausage? The liverwurst? Polish kielbasa? Salami? Heck, even hot dogs would have been nice for an occasional super-easy, kid-friendly meal.
Enter U.S. Wellness Meats. They, thankfully have it all. And to help you get familiar with their extensive line-up of sausages, they are giving away a sample pack of their sausages this week.
Introducing a Surf & Turf Cooking Class
I admit it. I’m not all that great at cooking seafood — or steaks — even though I *love* eating them. That’s why I’m thrilled to sign up for Ann Marie at Cheeseslave’s new online cooking class to learn how to cook wild caught seafood and grass-fed meats like a pro. As she’s been preparing…
Fight Back Friday July 30th
Welcome back yet again to another Fight Back Friday! Today we are bringing together another collection of recipes, tips, anecdotes, and testimonies from members of the Real Food Revolution.
Who are they? Why, they’re the Food Renegades. You know who you are — lovers of SOLE (Sustainable, Organic, Local, and Ethical) food, traditional food, primal food, REAL food, the list goes on. I believe that by joining together, our influence can grow, and we can change the way America (and the industrialized world) eats!
So, let’s have some fun.
Tuesday Link Love
Thank you all for your well wishes and congratulations on the birth of Alina Mae. We are both doing quite well. I think I may start working again part-time next week. I’ve still got to finish putting the finishing touches on the Real Food Nutrition & Health For Kids book. I know I promised you all a July release date, and it probably would have happened if Alina hadn’t popped out a couple of weeks ahead of her due date. As it is, you can trust that it’s the next “major thing” I’m tackling, so I’ll have it available to you as soon as possible. In the meantime, Real Food Nutrition & Health (for those aged 12 & up) is already available, and now is the time to buy to prepare for the new school year!
In lieu of actually writing something original here today, I thought I’d share some link love! Hope you enjoy.

Hello World
Please join me in welcoming baby Alina Mae into the world! She was born yesterday, July 14th, at 4:10pm at home with a beloved midwife, friendly doula, and grandmother in attendance.
The birth went smoothly, naturally, and without a hitch. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers as we geared up for the big day, and thank you too for your patience at the light posting recently. I’m sure you understand. My plans for the next week include sleeping as often as I’m able, nursing Alina, eating good food, and letting others wait on me hand and foot as much as possible!
May you be as blessed as I am, fellow Food Renegades. 🙂
Candy From Strangers
A few days ago I was standing in line at the post office, just behind a young mother and her daughter. The little girl looked to be about 2 years old – she was still speaking that language that only a mom can understand. She was a chubby little blonde child, wearing a tee shirt that promoted Coca Cola. As I watched her, she was happily smearing a chocolate bar all over her face.
It was 9 o’clock in the morning, by the way. So, I’m not sure whether this little girl was eating her breakfast or a mid-morning snack. As she alternately licked her candy bar and babbled at her mother, I realized that this was a child who already knows how to plan ahead to her next meal; the one word coming out of her chocolate-coated mouth that I could understand clearly was ‘McDonald’s.’
The food industry spends billions of dollars each year on child seduction, with carefully-conceived advertising directed specifically at children.
