One of the best things about buying from small family farms is that the food you eat is seasonal. When your farmer runs out of tomatoes for the year, they are gone until next year. If you want tomatoes in the winter, you need to eat from the harvest you “put up” during the summer bounty (in the case of tomatoes, that’s usually freezing or canning, although sun-dried tomatoes are lovely).
The folks at Chaffin Family Orchards are famous for their exquisitely mild olive oil, but they too only harvest once a year. Last week, they volunteered to give away some of the LAST of their olive oil until next season. When they run out of their stock of 375ml bottles, you’ll have to wait until after the next olive harvest to get any of their fabulous (& affordable!) oil. So, if you want to try their oil, or if you have some that’s about the run out, NOW is the time to get some — particularly while they’re giving away FREE shipping on orders placed within the continental U.S.
But first, the winner!
