This past weekend I went to Dallas with husband and kids in tow for a whirlwind 4 days of eating glorious food, meeting long-time internet friends face-to-face, speaking on a panel, and taking fervent notes as I sat in educational talks. I sampled Bubonic Tonic, ate salmon roe, and piled a never-ending supply of raw, golden butter from grass-fed cows onto just about every bite of food I ate.

DAY 1: Caffeine Free Challenge
I don’t have a caffeine addiction. At least, I don’t think I do. I know; I’d be a terrible 12-stepper. I say this because any time I’ve given up coffee in the past, I’ve had none of the typical withdrawal symptoms. No headaches. No irritability. No lethargy. What I miss is the flavor. At least that’s what I tell myself.
WINNER and COUPON for Kvass
Parked under the shade of trees, on just about every major street, you’ll see these. They’re kvass vendors, selling the ancient, healing drink by the cupful to eager passersby.
Now, thanks to the ingenuity of guys like Scott Grzybek of Zukay Live Foods who are bringing these living, fermented drinks to the U.S., you can now enjoy a proper kvass in your home. For the next two weeks, they’re even offering a 15% off coupon for those of you adventurous enough to try it!
GIVEAWAY: Kvass Sampler Pack
A refreshing thirst-quencher, a tonic for digestion, a probiotic, and a powerful detoxifier, kvass has deserved its prominent place in Slavic cultures. Because I believe so firmly in the power of living, fermented foods to help heal the gut and transform health, I’m pleased to be giving away 6 bottles of kvass this week (in varieties of your choosing)!

When Sugar Is Still Sugar
These days, people’s definitions of “sugar” and “sweets” are strangely warped. My son came bounding up to me with a smile. “Mommy, can I have another box of juice?,” he asked. I looked at the packaged box of 100% apple juice that one of my fellow church goers had brought for the kids. “No, son. That’s full of sugar,” I replied. Another mom nearby interrupted, “No, there’s no sugar in that. It’s 100% juice.”

Good Bye May, Hello June
Every now and then I experiment with ways to put more recent readers in touch with some of the most interesting articles and recipes I’ve shared (which are now gathering dust in my archives).
I saw Kelly The Kitchen Kop recently do a May Round-Up, thanking her top referrers AND sharing her top 5 pages for the month of May. It looked like fun! So, I decided to copy her, but build on what she did. Not only will I be thanking my top referrers & sharing the most popular posts from this month, but I’ll also share the most popular posts from May 2009.
