Industrialized agriculture is no stranger to organic food. Sadly, organic standards in some areas (particularly egg production) do little to produce a more nutrient-dense egg from an authentically happy hen. Industrial organic egg producers take advantage of the letter of the law to violate its spirit and cheat consumers out of hard-earned dollars by asking them to pay premium prices for eggs that are essentially the same as any other.
Why I’m Not Afraid of Salmonella
If the recent outbreak of salmonella in U.S. supermarket eggs is any indication, food borne pathogens are not going away. In fact, they are increasing in number at an alarming rate. Yet I’m not afraid of contracting salmonella from my eggs. In fact, I eat them raw.
Am I stupid? Do I have a death wish? Nah. I just know my farmer.
Real Food News Roundup
Since I hadn’t posted a round up of real food news recently, I’ve got quite a few links saved up. I spent a while this morning weeding through them all, trying to find the five most interesting ones (at least to me).

Paul Roberts on The End of Food
Did you know that it’s possible to be obese and still be starving? It seems counter intuitive, doesn’t it? Yet that’s what’s been happening for the last hundred years or more, all around the world, particularly when we watch traditional people groups start eating the nutritionally empty foods of industrialization.
Paul Roberts, journalist and published author, foresees a world where we won’t be able to afford nutrient-dense foods — a world where empty calories make us fat and kill us off. He calls it The End of Food, and in the video below he gives a brief overview of his position.
Is Eating Well An Act of Civil Disobedience?
These days, YES. Until the 1950s, all food was local and organic. Let that sink in. Think about it the next time someone accuses you of being an “elitist” because of your food choices. These days, if we want to eat sustainably produced food that’s humanely raised and traditionally prepared, we’re food renegades.
In many places, we’re even outlaws.
Food – Not Nutrients – Is The Fundamental Unit In Nutrition
We need to shift our focus away from “nutrients” and towards “food” in order to understand the effects nutrition has on health. Why? Because whole foods are so much more complex than nutritional science can understand.
Focusing too narrowly on nutrients has obscured the true value of eating Real Food.
