We are all tired of politics but it is safe to say that we still enjoy food! See how my cynicism turned instead into hope as I researched the food freedom during this legislative session.
Contaminating Inspectors and the Case of the Dangerous Apple Muffin
Meet Kris, a cow-share farmer in Michigan, who was recently served a warrant about her operation. The milk was not proven contaminated but could have easily become that way by the actions of the inspectors. Did they employ good science? You decide!
Food Freedom Violation in Texas
Sometimes following the law isn’t enough. A food co-op in Texas is now fighting for their right to follow the law as it was explained to them by the Health Department. And it’s the Health Department attacking them. Read the bizaare food freedom story here.
President Can Now Seize Control of All U.S. Food Production
On Friday, March 16th, 2012, President Barack Obama signed an executive order that asserts his authority to take over all food resources in the nation so long as it is done “to promote the national defense under both emergency and non-emergency conditions.” Can that qualifying phrase be any more ambiguous?
Obama has claimed this authority for himself and all future Presidents based on the fact that the President is “Commander and Chief” of the U.S. military. Essentially, this means that should the President ever deem it a matter of national defense, the U.S. government can now forcibly claim control of all your privately held crops, seeds, farm equipment, and livestock.
Think I’m exaggerating? Read the Executive Order.
Is Your Choice Of Food A Fundamental Right?
You grow a garden; you expect to be able to harvest the food from that garden and eat it. You raise a cow; you expect to be able to milk that cow and consume the milk. You raise chickens; you expect to gather eggs and eat them. It’s uncomplicated, simple, a fundamental right. Perhaps you wouldn’t feel this way if you lived under some other form of government, but here, now, in America and other democratized countries, this is what you expect. According to Wisconsin Judge Patrick J. Fiedler, you do not have a fundamental right to consume the food you grow or own or raise.
Save A Family Farm In Just 10 Minutes
Imagine this. You’re a farmer. You home school your many children and keep to a peaceful country life. You specialize in making the highest quality raw milk cheese from grass-fed cows. Every morning you walk out into a gray morning and watch the sunrise over the swaying fields of lush, green grasses while you go about your daily farm chores. You don’t own a gun. You’ve never even fired one. You are a law-abiding person, and you’ve never so much as gotten a parking ticket.
