She sat across the table from me enviously eying my salad. “I’d really love some vegetables right now,” she said. We started talking about her diet — the typical diet of the typical American. I told her that 60-80% of the diet of traditional people groups isn’t cooked. “Oh,” she interrupted, “I bet I don’t cook 60% of the food I eat.” She missed my point. She was talking about sandwiches and cold breakfast cereals, snack bars and cheese sticks. Let’s not beat around the bush, people. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is cooked. Aside from the occasional salad or piece of fruit, we just don’t eat raw foods. In fact, we fear them.

Weekly Meal Plan
It’s time for a little honesty. (When am I ever not honest with you guys?) Last week’s menu fell apart. It died a violent and tragic death. It lasted a day. I simply had too many other pressing things to do. Too many work deadlines converged at once. Too many outside pressures required my time. I put my husband in charge of pulling together most of the meals, and he gave it a heroic effort. But he’s no cook.
Food Scare Of The Week
I’m sick of hearing about peanut recalls. Aren’t you? Well, it turns out that nothing in this bright world of ours is safe from contamination — not even potatoes. The culprit? A wiley little bacteria called listeria. You know, the same pathogen they use to frighten us into cooking all our food. Everything must be cooked, say the food scientists. Nothing consumed raw. No raw milk. No raw vegetables. No soft cheeses. No sushi or smoked salmon.

The Alltop Badge Debate Continues
After reading your comments, I decided to experiment and make my own badges. I like the Alltop sense of humor, but I wanted something a tad bit less offensive. I don’t know. Did I succeed? Here’s the badge I created: I also tried to think of synonyms to “kick ass.” I could say this site…
I Won’t Make This Mistake Again
Sleep deprived and feeling the pressure of impending work deadlines, I did something I shouldn’t have done. I drank coffee. But, the story doesn’t end there. When I reached the bottom of my first cup, I grabbed a second. So, I felt a little wired. Not a big deal, right? It would pass. Then my…

4 Meal Planning Tips For Busy People
Once upon a time, I began each week with a meal plan. It was an amazing little thing — a simple sheet of paper with hand written notes outlining the week’s meals. It also made doing traditional foods preparation a lot simpler. If I planned sandwiches for lunch on Tuesday, I would make a note to bake sandwich bread Monday night. I’d note when to make mayonnaise, ketchup, or dill pickle relish. I’d tell myself when to marinate meat or start the crock pot. When to sprout grains or legumes.
Study Shows Benefits of Paleo Diet
It’s not surprising news (at least to me). But it is news. Medical researchers released the results of a study on Wednesday that demonstrated just how beneficial a return to eating foods more traditional to the human diet can be. They took a group of non-obese, sedentary(!) volunteers and fed them a paleolithic diet for 10 days. Just 10 days! And they got amazing and significant results.
