Regarding sea food, the best places are always the ones closest to source. So head to the docks, harbours or river towns to find the freshest seafood.

Great list - it does get confusing shopping these days. Another great topic would be healthy oils - there are so many different kinds and it isn't easy for the non natural health guru to keep all the different Omega's straight. (I just heard about Omega-9! yikes not another fatty acid to learn about)

It is so difficult to know what's healthy and what's not. The super markets don't make it any easier. Misleading packaging is a whole other story. Keep spreading the news.

I just wanted to thank you for this thread. I'm a huge health freak, and I always have trouble picking out the exact right groceries I need. It's hard to know these days, too, with all the chemicals, additives, and everything.

Again, thanks--you're a fantastic source of info for healthy eaters.

This is a great reference Kristen, thank you! I will definitely have to refer people to this guide for a basic primer about food quality.

This is a really fantastic reference -- and it's a good primer to re-read when my immediate desires (cheap pork chops!) outweigh my consience. Thank you so much!

Thank you for compiling the list for this real food newbie. :) I look forward to your post on seafood. I'm embracing the lifestyle change but it can be very overwhelming! And extremely difficult to find these foods. The next step I'm taking is returning to making all my family's bread but I've never soaked the flour before so could use some recipes or tips on converting my recipes. (no allergies or sensitivities here) What are the healthiest breads?
