Guy here. Very interested in the deodorant and the after shave balm. Use cake soap and straight razor to shave so don’t need the shave gel and not interested in the perfume.

Have been wanting to switch away from the commercial deodorant but haven’t made the switch yet … might be time now.

I love the idea of organic perfumes and makeup. I don’t wear either very often, but when I do, I like to think that the stuff I am using is safe and healthy.

Also, I emailed five friends and signed up for the newsletter!

Hi, I was a little disappointed to see that it’s a network marketing company, I would be curiuos to see how their products (ingredients, effectiveness) compare to burts bees or tom’s of maine (deodorant, skin care, hair care) which are more readily available and as such, less costly. Iwas left with the question, what makes these products so truly different enough to pay a premium for them? Also curious RE shelf life if they are all organic and no preservatives (?). I would have liked to see a less expensive basic skin care regimen, though from working with several naturopathic folks (royal body care, natures sunshine, other small ones), I do understand that the core ingredients can be very expensive. I think the claim that nearly 90% of more than 10,000 ingredients have not been “evaluated for safety” is inflated and likely misleading. I want to know what is BEST about them, not be scared away because anything else is Dangrous. Anyway, that is my comment, I would enjoy the consultation & all if I win!

Thank you for your comments, Gayle. In order to answer your questions, this is a long winded answer, one whole wellness consultation- over 30mins!! ;-)

First your disappointment re network marketing; Miessence use a business model that has retail, just like any other company I see in a shop in town, as well as multi-channel but one can easily be a customer with absolutely no pressure to do anything else! I see it a low cost way for a small company to distribute products by entering the market. I also think that RBC and Nature’s Sunshine use a network marketing model.

Having been round the factory in Australia, Miessence really is a very small company producing products with certified organic ingredients, which are highly effective & have a good shelf life, 6 months or so, but I have found longer. Many products are certified to food grade standards and the preservative element is essential oils, which are highly effective in preserving things. Narelle who creates the products started in her kitchen in Queensland but then went on, with vision to get USDA certification, long before it was trendy.

Sadly our food has been tweaked so much that it is now perceived as “cheap” but at what cost to our health or environment in terms of pollution? I see the same thing in our skin care and cosmetics, I can buy a “cheap” soap or toothpaste but it might contain triclosan (which is a known endocrine disruptor & bio-accumulates in our water supply…). I am not so sure it is actually cheap when a substance I use daily can cause widespread ramification in human’s health and our planet.

Sadly the perception again is that products are tested prior to market. Finished products are rarely tested, they are not required to be so. “Consumers believe that ‘if it’s on the market, it can’t hurt me.’ And this belief is sometimes wrong.” said by the head of colors and cosmetics at the FDA in 1998.

The problem is distressing and thus can create upset, I was furious when I found out that my seemingly ‘organic’ shampoo was total green-washing. Big companies can gloss over the truth, and create the perception that their products are natural, safe, pure when in fact the ingredients tell a different story.

Miessence and other certified organic producers are happy to stand by their ingredients as they are independently tested by a third party, USDA or Australian Certified Organic, to prove they are what they say they are.

It is our own choice what we buy, I trust that we are all naturally resourceful and can make a decision on what is best for us. Miessence isn’t right for some folks and that is just fine. Others choose to use it and just love it. I use Miessence as I want a deodorant without propylene glycol or a toothpaste without sodium monofluorophosphate- fluoride. That is my choice and I make that a priority in my life.

I trust that you choose skin care that suits your skin and personal budget.
    Blessings, Joanna

My 1 year old son has severe eczema and I have been on a constant search for affordable relief for his itchy skin. He is on a strict diet of gluten, dairy and egg free food. No boxed foods, only organic. He is still having skin issues. Maybe Miessence will work for him.

Very impressed with entire line, especially with the food grade standards and cold temperature preperations of products to ensure highest quality. They really go above and beyond. I’m considering becoming a rep. to empower people about the importance of going organic. This is a crucial time to teach others how to detox and embrace holistic living. Listing ingredients shows integrity and honesty, so rare these days. Looking forward to trying these products!
