GIVEAWAY: Ghee, Ghee, Ghee, and More Ghee

I’ve said it before: Ghee is a lovely fat. As butter cleaned of the milk solids, proteins, and sugars, this non-allergenic fat has the nutty, rich flavor of butter without any of the commonly associated downsides. When ghee is made from the milk of grass-fed cows, you’ve got a powerhouse of concentrated fat-soluble nutrients gift-wrapped in a tasty package.

That’s why I’m so pleased to announce this week’s giveaway of — you guessed it — GHEE. Of course, this isn’t just any old ghee, it’s (to my knowledge) the only commercially available, nationally-marketed ghee in the United States made from grass-fed cows!

In my now legendary ode to ghee, I showered the fat with many compliments, including these:

So, why do I think ghee should be a staple in every kitchen?

Because of it’s flavor, nutritional profile, and versatility. If you have a hard time handling the heavy coconut flavor of coconut oil, ghee is the fat for you. If you find that tallow or lard simply taste too “heavy” for the dish you’re making, ghee is the fat for you. If you want a healthy saturated fat rich in antioxidants and essential vitamins, ghee is the fat for you. If you’re cooking at higher temperatures, want to avoid any potential complications from lactose or casein, yet desire that savory, silky, nutty, buttery flavor, ghee is the fat for you.

What You’ll Win

This week, one of my sponsors, Pure Indian Foods, is giving away two jars of 14 oz plain ghee, one sampler pack (6 x 1.1 oz) of spiced ghee, and one jar of 14 oz of virgin coconut oil. That’s mighty generous of them, don’t you think?

As the mom of a son with severe gut issues, which includes casein intolerance, ghee has long been on my list of items to buy. Like everyone else, however, I agree that it when it comes to buying him his other foods and supplements that he needs, ghee has always been moved down on the list. We are HUGE fans of coconut oil, as we use it for everything from cooking to slathering it on his skin after a bath. Winning these products would be so wonderful! And is a perfect way to gain prospective new customers!

  6. Terri says

I haven’t tried ghee yet but I want to! And guess what–the other day I found milk from grass-fed cows in a local supermarket!!

  7. Kathryn says

I finally bought a jar – it is superb! I use it very sparingly though because the shipping was a bit rough on my pocketbook. Whenever I use it though, my husband just raves about the food. :-) I’d love to try the other “flavors” though. Please pick me. :-)

  8. says

I find ghee helps me “stretch” my fresh raw butter-saving the fresh for lightly cooked items or topping. I use it for pan cooking and things since it’s just the oil & doesn’t reduce some like fresh butter as the liquids cook out. Still super tasty butter flavor tho!

  9. Michele M says

This is awesome!!! I LOVE ghee!! And have been meaning to make my own but haven’t yet (been focusing on my fermenting skills lately, with great success I must say :-)). Needless to say I would love to win some ghee. I subscibed to your weekly email and I emailed some of my friends (7 in all) who I think might like this (if they don’t I may have to revalulate our friendship). Also I liked the Pure Indian Foods fb, but I didn’t post this link because I don’t own a computer and can’t do it on my phone but I will post a status directing people here. Thanks for sharing this amazingness!

Ghee is absolutely one of the best ways to go. Take out almost all the potentially problematic proteins and the glorious fat that remains is good for just about everyone. A true superfood!

  15. Karen Kremer says

I’ve sent out five emails with your link. This is a great give away! I liked your new Facebook page and liked the Pure Indian page on Facebook, too, and entered on their web page. Don’t have a blog. Finally . . . I’m already on your email list and love your messages. Always trying to get more good fat in to help stabilize my blood sugar/insulin. BTW, is it bad to leave out real organic butter on the counter? I know you can with Ghee but with butter, you can’t can you?
