I live in Willimantic, CT and filter my city water currently with a very simple filter that for the most part does the trick….however I’m not sure that fluoride is filtered out according to the research on the filter! My town still uses fluoride treatment in our water supply. I happen to have been diagnosed with heavy metal toxicity about 2+ years ago and have been slowly naturally chelating it out of my system! Wow! I never even knew something like this existed! My fiance had his colon removed due to a very rare form of genetic colon cancer (FAP). As a result, he needs to drink a TON of water to stay hydrated (since your colon is what soaks up your water intake). We go through mountains of PUR filters and I have been concerned that even though we filter, it doesn’t catch everything. I have city water and it comes out of the tap smelling like bleach!! It’s awful! This would be AMAZING!!!

It’s nice to find a filter that removes so many contaminants in the water. I don’t know if they are all different, but one of the filters has a life span of over 11 years! That is amazing. I would never consider drinking tap water, but with one of these filters, I think I would.

I would love this because normal purifiers don’t filter enough out of the filthy water in Philly. We have to use bottled water even to boil pasta. The water here has made us ill for years. I’ve wanted a filter for close to a year. there is flouride in Phoenix city water, and I buy bottled water for that reason, but really want a filter so that we can stop having so much waste (bottles).

We live in Portland, OR, which is slated to fluoridate its water supply, after decades of the citizenry saying ‘no’ to said fluoridation. From what I understand, 67% of our populace in Portland does NOT want fluoridation, and yet three city council members appear to be pushing the mandate through (in light of Nestle vying for water bottling rights in the nearby water supply in an area called The Gorge, it would seem we may have some bought politicians working for us at present). Our son is next in line for a series of genetic kidney ailments…we have loved living in Portland for the past 11 years, because we knew that his risk of furthered kidney decline was far less living here than in a fluoridated area. Now I’ll be on a constant worry, even considering to move to another city because of our concern. I live in housing built on top of an Old Army Ammo and Supply Dump ! O.O , Where we have been told Not to Grow anything to Eat, in the soil because of contamination! I would love to get rid of the fluoride, chlorine, etc. in our drinking water as we’ve gotten rid of fluoride toothpaste and no fluoride treatments at the dentist. The area where I live is not only “fortified” with fluoride but also contains plenty of farm runoff pesticides. I believe the pricey bottled water sold is, by and large, just fancy tap water, I want my drinking water truly purified of all these contaminates.

I live in Australia, where they, too, believe in the mass medication of the population by fluoridating our water. The only city in this country that doesn’t add fluoride is Brisbane, but unfortunately, I do not live there.
I object to having toxic substances in my food and water, and I did not give my permission to be “medicated” by the city. They have no right to pollute the city water.
I have been struggling to find any sort of filter that would remove fluoride, without much success. So far, the only one that does seem worth buying is the Berkey filter. The only reason I haven’t gotten one already though is the price, which I have found daunting indeed.
I am tired of worrying about our health and what the long term effects of drinking fluoride are going to be (I already know it’s not doing our teeth any good).

I worked at a store that filtered and sold water, along with RO systems. While these were good, they require some knowledge of plumbing etc. The Berkey seems like the perfect solution for myself and my new apartment.

We live in a very remote area in Colorado and have to haul our water in to our home (it ain’t called The Dry Side of La Plata County for nothin’) and our source of water is considered not-potable, so this filter would be in constant use in our home.

Really liked everything I saw on Berkey site. In the market for a water system. Wanted to see if I could win one before buying one, but for some reason your entry will not let me complete requirements… Been there, done that, but no response. Oh well will still consider a berkey. A little concerned about not being sold in calf.
I had a water filter system for my house. Well, we moved, and my new place doesn’t have one and I’m not able to install a system here. I can deal with the water as far as dishes and cleaning and the like, but I really don’t like the taste.
Truthfully, I guess I was spoiled, because now that I don’t have a filter I don’t even feel good about drinking the water here knowing it’s got all the nice things in it that municipal water treatment facilities like to put in it. I would use a Berkey filter. I would use it to pieces!

I have wanted one of these filters since I learned about them about a year ago but haven’t been able to put the $ together to get one. I would love to know my family is always drinking healthy water.
I would like to win this giveaway because I’ve been kind of pining after a Big Berkey water purifier for a while but I haven’t been able to save up enough to get one myself, so if I could win that would be a great way to cross off one of the top items on my prepper’s list.
It was determined last year that our city water contains not only the usual pollutants but is also contaminated with birth control hormones, horse tranquilizers, and COCAINE. As soon as I read that report, I started buying highly filtered, oxygenated water from the health food store for 50 cents a gallon. I love it…but…being free from hauling all those jugs back and forth once a week would be awesome.

Ohmigosh! In So. Calif. we have no safe water to draw from in an emergency. Not enough rain to collect. Would love a BB to use daily for purer water and also to use for our man-made-lake water if necessary.
We use a Brita, which makes the tap water taste better, but I’m doubtful about how many contaminants it really removes. I’m mostly concerned about pesticides and fertilizer residue, since we’re surrounded by big ag sugar beet farms.
It’s also great that the Berkey doesn’t remove minerals.

As far as I know, the Big Berkey is the most efficient and best water filter. Made of stainless steel, your filtered water remains pure and is not tainted by leached plastics. On a cost-per-gallon basis, I don’t think anyone can beat Berkey’s low cost either.

Clean water that tastes good and actually is a pleasure to drink is hard to come by in the Bakersfield CA. Buying bottled water is out of the question for us since it is very environmentally destructive. Britta works well but doesn’t purify as well as Big Berkey Water Purifier.

Not to mention I am moving to camp Legeune soon.. and there was a terrible water contamination over 20 years ago.. that lasted from 1957-1987! We have well water right now and are getting ready to move into town for a while. Our city water is high in chlorine etc( more than a swimming pool requires). We have planned on buying spring water during this time but that’s pricey, so this product would be great for us!

We have a big Berkey, and love it! I want one for our church.
Really sad we don’t get to choose what goes into our drinking water. I live in Salt Lake City and would love to have Flouride Free water for my Family of 9. It is not fun felling up 15gallons of water every week of reverse osmosis water and then buying liquid mineral to put back into my water. Just so I can have peace of mind of what goes into my families body.
I’d love that Berkey water purifier in my home – and work!
We are 100% on cistern and the water we bring home is known to have multiple contaminants. We currently buy bottled water, but know that isn’t any better. Would love to have this to eliminate the contaminants we are ingesting! Thank you!

We would love this! Our water is well water, and has a lot of sediment in it. We live on a mountain, and should have good, clean well water, but that’s just not the case.

Like many, I’m putting together a family emergency kit and emergency plan in case of personal/community disaster. Clean water is a MUST! Having bottled water on hand is okay, but it is not a long-term solution like the Big Berkey.

Wow, these filters are really cool! I like how they require no electricity, and are portable. I like how they use gravity to filter. So you can take it from house to house when you move, or you could (technically) even take it with when if you move to another country. And the price isn’t bad, considering that if you buy an r/o filter, it costs about $150. Plus you have to pay to have it installed, unless you want to do it yourself. However, if you move, you have to buy another one, b/c its really too hard to uninstall and re-install it in in your new sink. Anyways, these look great! if i don’t win one, I’ll have to start saving to buy one for our next home, when our lease is up!
I like the fact it takes chlorine and flouride out and leaves the trace minerals…..unlike a reverse osmosis system.

This looks so superior to the Brita pitcher and holds so much more at a time. I can see the stains from our water all over the faucet but refuse to go back to buying plastic bottles of water!
Every Saturday my hubby lugs two 6 gallon carboys to the water machine outside the grocery store. It’s not a big deal to me (I’m not the one hoisting the big jugs around town) but we use these bottles to make wine, I want to make more wine! I have been looking for something like this for years. Didn’t know this item was available. Read about and got excited because this really makes perfect sense. I just wish I invented it. No plumbing, or electricity needed. I bought one and couldn’t be happier. Now my grown boys would like one for Christmas. They are worth every penny, I would rather not buy two more at this time.

I have never heard of these systems, but it sounds like something my family could use! We live on a farm with water fed by a spring. While this sounds good in theory, we had our water tested and there are sorts of bacteria in it. We were advised against drinking it, but can’t really afford another option.

We’ve been using a water-filter pitcher for several years now, but our family is growing and I find that I have to fill that pitcher so many times a day it is ridiculous! Our friends have a Big Berkey so I am familiar with them, and I know one would get a lot of use here at our house.

My daughter has food and chemical sensitivities. Regular tap water gives her a stomach ache. We even have a filter on her our shower as the chlorine in the water aggravates her sinuses and allergies. When we go camping we have to take loads of bottled water for her to drink and to cook with. The Berkley water filter would be so nice to camp with as I would prefer not to drink water from plastic containers. It would also give me peace of mind to have it at home for a back up filter and to filter the water in our water barrels in case of an emergency.
We have one Berkey, already. Our water is contaminated with chemicals in the Spring when our water table is so high. We’ve had to see a Dr to clease high levels of pesticides and other chemicals out of our family. We were very sick.
For some time now we’ve been considering purchasing another Berkey. It will go into our utility room where we used to get water all the time from the sink. When we come in from the barn/outdoors it is a pain to undress to walk through the house for a drink. In the utility room we could step in, gulp down a glassful, and return to the outside.
We are on well water and it usually smells like rotten eggs. A Berkey would be so cool! No more smell, no more particles!
