Hi Kristin,
Thank you so much for your comment on my post re: blended Kale :) Unfortunately I do not own a blender... lol, but I am definitely going to be giving Kale an actual try- my friends are gonna pee their pants!
This has been fun! It was interesting to see so many different ideas and what people are doing to be sustainable :)
Blessings!
Lisa

I don't have a web site or blog, so I'll post my Fight Back Friday here.
Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan was a real eye opener for me. He has a chapter on factory organic -- organic products made by giant agribussinesses. No way no how do I want my money going to these companies, so I did some digging and found this https://www.msu.edu/~howardp/organicindustry.html I was shopping at Kroger's at the time, and nearly everything I bought was factory organic. So I changed. I don't shop local yet because I don't have a car (by choice) -- I am concerned about the imapct, but I'm more concerned about the food I eat.

I am now able to eat entirely organic, grass fed, pastured. This is what I eat and where I get it:
Diamond Organics -- fresh vegetables, fruit, sauerkraut, eggs, nuts
U.S.Wellness Meats -- beef, chicken, butter, raw cheese, canned tuna (made by Vital Choice)
Soap for dishes and me -- Dr. Bronner's
Laundry detergent, toilet paper, and paper towels -- Seventh Generation
Dental care products -- Uncle Harry's and toothsoap.com (note: in 2006 Tom's of Maine sold out to Colgate-Palmolive)
Supplements -- Dr. Ron's (he also sells FCLO from Green Pastures)

Other good brands/sellers
If you buy grains, beans, and fermented soy try Gold Mine Natural Foods
Eden foods
Wilderness Family Organics
Frontier Coop
Tropical Traditions
Sunland -- peanut butter (absolutely wonderful stuff, too bad I found out I can't eat peanut butter...)

I still have some stuff I'd rather not:
20 Mule Team Borax by Dial. This is too good to give up, I haven't found a non-agribusiness source. At one time Dial was on the no animal testing list (son't know if they are now or not)
Ban deordant -- the natural brands just don't work right now for me. As my body detoxs, I'm hoping I can change.
Burt's Bees lip balm owned by Clorax WAAAAAAA I have not found any other product, even from all my great natural sources that is as good as this one.

Food Renegade,
Hydrogen peroxide does seem to help! Every time my ears are hurting I'll bubble them out and the next day they feel so much better. Thanks for hosting Fight Back Fridays! Thanks for leaving the comment.

I am finally getting blooms on my Tomato plant! And have found a raw milk source. It's goats milk, and wow it is really good. After trying a quart, ya I was a chicken, I find that I crave it now. They also do pastured eggs too! Yippy! I have my parsley getting big, and my kitties catnip is lookin' good. My chives are dying, I think FL is too hot for it. I am looking for some squash that will be able to deal with a container. And have been eying some strawberries to add to my happy plant family! But so far my meager Apt porch is looking like a garden. One small step for a poor college student, one big step for the movement.

I know it's not much, but every little bit helps. I hope to find a bakery to get real bread from. I am too spent to take all the time to make it, well at least at this point in my life. I want to make some pickles but have to wait for cucumbers to starts getting plentiful.

I also took my first does of Cod Liver oil yesterday, haven't got the gumption up today, but I will sometime.

I hope to be able to make it to the local food not bombs sharing this Sunday, but I work that day so I am not sure if I can. Poop!

I am looking forward to more people planting eating gardens with flower gardens. I know I have talked my parents into it. They just gave me a leek, and some carrots. Mmmm soup it what I am thinking of. They have a larger yard, and live kinda out in the country, but if I can grow a few things on my porch so can all of you!

The easy plants to grow...herbs. I can't tell you haw many times I thought I killed my catnip only to have it return to me. Then there is Kale, it is really easy to grow. Lettuce is pretty easy, but you need some space for these. black eyed peas are pretty easy to grow too, they are usually called cow peas. And you don't have to soak the fresh beans! So yummy!
